About Wren
Well, well, well. Look what the internet dragged in.
Welcome to my little corner of internet. Full of questionable decisions, unsolicited opinions and inappropriate humor that probably should've remained private because the filter has apparently been missing so long that we've stopped filing reports.
I'm Wren Merritt.
I'm a writer, a chronic overthinker, an enthusiastic observer of human stupidity, and a woman whose mouth has been known to write checks her better judgment would strongly advise against cashing.
I've spent a considerable amount of my life watching people do ridiculous shit and wondering whether I'm the only one who notices. As it turns out, I'm just one of the few people willing to say it out loud.
I have a filter. Apparently, it's broken or just decorative.
So, what the hell is this place?
Excellent question. I'm still determining whether this entire endeavor was a brilliant idea or another spectacular entry in my personal collection of questionable decisions.
What you'll find here is a little bit of everything.
Ridiculous observations. Dark humor. Sarcasm served generously. Stories about everyday life and the baffling creatures inhabiting it. I mean, honestly, are people really this ridiculous or am I trapped in some Matrix type shit where nothing is actually real?
I have a deeply suspicious relationship with optimism and a sense of humor that definitely should have come with a warning label. I have been told I should think before I speak. I do, I swear! Unfortunately, what I'm thinking is usually worse than what I actually say.
And sometimes, things get serious.
Because life isn't always funny.
Relationships can be messy. People can be cruel. Love can be complicated. And sometimes the people who are supposed to make us feel safest are the very ones who leave us questioning ourselves.
Those are the things we don't always talk about.
The arguments that leave you wondering how a perfectly ordinary morning turned into a full-blown shitshow. The comments that stick with you long after the conversation ends. The moments when you find yourself thinking, Wait a fuckin' minute. Is this actually okay?
Sometimes it isn't.
And sometimes hearing someone else say that out loud is exactly what we need.
I don't have all the answers. Hell, some days I'm not entirely convinced I have the questions organized correctly.
But I do believe that laughter can coexist with pain. That finding humor in something doesn't mean it wasn't serious. And that telling our stories, even the ugly ones, can remind someone else that they're not alone.
A word about the stories...
Some are true. Some are fiction. Some are reality wearing a fake mustache and hoping nobody recognizes it.
Names may change. Details may change. Occasionally, reality is so absurd that fiction would actually be more believable.
And no, I'm not going to tell you which is which every time.
Where's the fun in that?
A few things you should probably know before proceeding:
I appreciate honesty, even when it's uncomfortable.
I believe kindness matters, but I don't believe kindness requires being a doormat.
I think sarcasm is an art form, and I'm willing to die on that hill. Preferably not today. I've got shit to do.
I believe people deserve respect, boundaries, and the freedom to say no without being punished for it.
And I firmly believe that if we can't occasionally laugh at the spectacular absurdity of being human, we're all going to lose our collective minds.
So, why am I writing?
Because I have things to say.
Because sometimes writing is cheaper than therapy, although I suspect my keyboard may eventually file a formal complaint.
Because I love finding humor in the ordinary, the extraordinary, and the completely inappropriate. Just because you can find humor in something doesn't mean you deserved to experience it.
And because somewhere out there, someone might read something I've written and think:
Holy shit. I thought I was the only one.
If that happens, then this whole ridiculous adventure will have been worth it.
So pull up a chair. Stay awhile. Laugh at something inappropriate. Think about something uncomfortable. Disagree with me if you must.
Just don't expect me to sugarcoat everything.
I'm a writer, not a damn bakery.
Welcome to Wren's world.
